A Spread for the Winter Solstice

A Spread for the Longest Night

The Winter Solstice falls between December 20th - 22nd in the Northern Hemisphere, a day where the Sun’s peak is at its lowest altitude. This marks its most muted moment in the sky for the entire calendar year. From here until the Summer Solstice, the Sun’s strength begins to build, until we reach the culmination of its brightness and energy on June 20th-22nd,

When we celebrate the Winter Solstice, we are embracing the return of the Sun and the light. For on the other side of the longest night of the year, is the promise of light filled days ahead.

We may honor the darkness in many ways. For centuries, these were nights to gather with family and friends. A time to share a meal and tell stories, with the warmth of the fire and one another’s company to fuel us through the long dark months. While many of us may choose to gather, we may also take a directive from the animal world. Hibernating in our own unique human ways. Retreating and taking the time to go within. In doing so we allow for rest and an opportunity to connect with ourselves, nature, spirit and ancestors. The Winter Solstice gives us a chance to discover what may be hidden in the darkness 🌘

This spread was created with the intention of celebrating the light we carry as well as embracing this period of rest 🕯️✨May it support you as you take time away from the external noise to honor yourself.

You may choose to use Tarot, Oracle cards or even consider these as journal prompts. There is no wrong way to use this spread. If you have other thoughts on how to play with this spread, I’d love to hear about it!
