A Meditation on the Ten of Pentacles

The Ten of Pentacles speaks to more than just an abundant life and the richness of family, whether biological or chosen.It is the card of ancestors and growth, who we are because of them and what we would like to leave behind for the next generation and keepers of our planet. This is a meditation to welcome abundance into our own everyday lives, as well as abundance beyond our lifetime by the sacred keeping of Mother Earth. 

We begin by dimming the lights and finding a comfortable position. One in which you can sit or lay down for sometime. Lower or soften your gaze or close your eyes, whichever feels right for you, whichever way allows you to tune in best. Place one hand on your heart and one on your lower belly. Once you have settled, take a deep breath in for a count of 4…..1,2,3,4 hold it slightly at the top…1,2 , and release 1,2,3,4.  One more time, breathe in …1,2,3,4 hold 1,2, and release 1,2,3,4. 

Let’s begin.

Night begins to fall all around you outside, and you are at home in the cozy atmosphere of the home you have created. Look around you. What does your home look like? Notice the floors, the sofa. What colors do you see? What shapes do you see? Your home is lit within , it is warm and soft. You walk over to the window to let the night air enter your space. As you push the window open you hear the sounds of the night begin to come alive. What sounds do you hear? Are they close by? Further away?  You welcome the sounds as they soothe you and create a familiar symphony that you know well. You walk over to your sofa and sit down. You run your hand over the fabric and take in the sensation, you notice and feel the cushion underneath you providing you with support. You are grateful for this comfort. 

You look up and notice the pictures on the wall, of people you love and the beautiful experiences you have shared in your lifetime. As you look around the room you begin to notice the abundance in your living space of everything you have collected over the years, through careful and thoughtful decision making. This does not need to indicate that these items cost a great deal, but rather, the value they hold for you can not be quantified. The items, whether personally chosen or passed down, hold significance and are special to you. Take a moment to notice what you see and take in the wealth that surrounds you. What is the wealth that you can not see at this moment, but know is there? Love from past and current relationships, appreciation for your work, acts of kindness and service that you have bestowed upon others or have been provided to you as is the natural order and the flow of life. Giving thanks to the ways in which you nourish your body, through movement and choices made by what you take in through the form of food and drink. Giving gratitude to your body for waking up today to take in all of the experiences in store for you, whether your body feels strong or is currently less than ideal, what part of your body can you thank and be grateful for? If this feels challenging, take your hands and place them on the part or parts of your body that are in need of care and attention. Tell your body “I love you and I send you healing to be well”........ Take as much time as you need to do this.


Concentrating at the top of your head, you begin to feel a warm sensation almost like a tingling, begin to stir at your crown, you give this sensation permission to flow down from the crown of your head, and down through your torso, your arms, your legs and down out through your feet. You feel the flow of gratitude. Inside your heart space joy and contentment flow. You are the receiver of this beautiful and abundant life. 

As the energy courses down your body notice if you can feel any sensations just below your spine. This energy center is known as our root, and where we store our feelings around safety and security. Bring your attention to the base of your spine for a moment, to this energy center. See what feeling or sensation you can detect here. Now we will begin to imagine ourselves becoming one with the earth, by growing energetic roots from this point, as if we were a tree. Imagine roots at the base of your spine and with your next exhale they begin to grow and sink into the earth beneath you. Imagine these roots growing strong and traveling deep within the soil, solidifying your connection with this wondrous planet. You are safe here and you belong here. Notice what you are feeling as your roots continue to grow. Sit with this feeling. 

The earth begins to speak to you and asks:

What do you wish and hope for in the years to come? While you are still present and after you have left this plane. How do you envision the Earth in her most beautiful, rich, healthy and abundant expression?  Take a moment to travel her globe, what do you see in the landscapes? Mountains, Ocean, Deserts, Forest, Jungles, Sky? Notice the people of Earth treating her with grace and respect, reverence and care. What does that look like? In turn, see how the people of Earth treat one another, with grace and respect, reverence and care. Watch how neighbors exchange words of kindness, communities come together to support one another, nations embrace one another , and further out and out and out the circle of kindness and love expands until it encompasses the whole Earth. Now feel that strength of abundant and infinite love and care. It circles back around the planet and into your body through the roots you have grown to connect with the Earth here today.  Allow your body to embrace its strength and fullness. As our meditation comes to a close, I leave you with a simple affirmation, and if you wish, you may repeat this affirmation to yourself. “I am whole and I am abundant”   When you feel ready you may open your eyes. Welcome back.
